Utangwa Youth Polytechnic
Location: Utangwa Market, Mbooni in Kikima, Makueni County
Utangwa Youth Polytechnic was established in 1968 by The National Christian Council of Kenya as a village vocational training school.
In 2005 the institution became a registered TVET following a government mandate to revitalize all the youth polytechnics countrywide. The aim was to empower school leavers through provision of accessible training in technical, vocational, industrial, entrepreneurship and life skills.
Amara Charitable Trust's relationship with the Centre dates back to 2022 when we sent our first cohort of differently abled students from Kyangoma Special Needs School for training.
In 2022, we provided funds to the college for beds and shelving for the hairdressing classroom. We also got them a donation of paints.
1n 2024, we upgraded their kitchen and installed a water tank and energy efficient stove. The students were encouraged to do the work as part of the training.
In 2025, thanks to Endeavour Credit's support we renovated the floors of the classrooms, girls' dormitory and repainted the entire institution. We also provided tools and equipment to the carpentry and cosmetology departments.
